Some kids don't understand the homework and need tutoring, not detention. Also, some students work hard and forget about the homework. If you don't do your homework for 5 times (or more), you should get detention. Not if you don't need it.

Also, if you don't understand the homework, you can get a teacher to tutor you for 30 minutes. Detention is almost 2 hours and is boring.
