With regard to exploration and establishment of the U.S., do the pros outweigh the cons?

Yes, in the past we have made some bad decisions (wars and discrimination), but we've learned from our mistakes to be openminded and to appreciate what we have. For example, Americans are born with inalienable rights (freedom of speech, right to bear arms, trial by jury, etc.), we have a say in what goes on in our government, andwe have access to free education. Other countries aren't as fortunate as we are and have yet to redeem themselves.

Almost any nation in the world has gone through horrible events similar to this country's. But, it all depends on how you handle and rebuild from these situations, and that determines if all the violence and bloodshed and destruction of human's rights was worth it. I personally believe the way the U.S. has handled all of its hardshiships has produced one of the most successful and powerful nation's in the world that everyone seems to want to live in.

I beleive that the good outwieght the bad. I feel like the U.S. has done enough good things (i.e. abolishing slavery) to outweigh the cons. Although the U.S. has done lots of bad things I believe that the outcome of the events has made the U.S. a better country in general. I believe that the U.S. has learned from its mistakes and from those learnings we have made the country a better place (i.e. giving everyone rights). In conclusion I beleive the pros outweigh the cons.

Even though we had to get through wars (Civil War, American Revolution), slavery and destruction of the economy, we still got over and that's how we create our history today. We have our freedoms because people had to fight for them (MLK, woman activistist, etc.). Other people in different countries want to live in the U.S. because they don't have the types of freedoms that the U.S. does. It may seem like it's the other way around because all of the people who died, but I would rather live in a country that has freedoms than a country with no freedoms and still slavery.

The United States is what it is because of it's rich history behind it. Many horrible things happened in our culture's past, the main ones being slavery, discrimination, and the pain suffered due to ignorant people who judged and mistreated people all beacuse of their closed minds. After bad experiences, something good always follows, and the good thing is that Americans learned their lesson, now we have so many rights protected by government, that no one can or will be able to snatch from you. Thanks to all the mistakes once done we have an advanced country that stands tall and strong.

So far, I think that the U.S. is worth it. You must remember that our beloved country has not been around very long. The establishment of the U.S. started with some wars. Almost every country does. We have created our own "melting pot" culture, and a military machine which is often considered the greatest in the world. We did opress the indians of North America in our exploration of the new world. This could be considered a black spot on americas clean reccord. However, we did help them out in the french indian war, so it does depend on perspective. Recently, the U.S. seems to be going downhill a bit. The future will hold the answer.

No, because we did not need to destroy civilizations in the process of making the country a better society. The government always talked about how everyone schould be created equal and yet, no one was. I believe that we did not need to treat other humans such as africans, and indians like animals just beacuse the americans were too lazy to do manual labor themselves. It just made major conflicts within the country.

where we are today is a beautiful place with many different opportunities but back then it wasn't the same.it took alot to get twhere America is now. i don't think the modern U.S. was worth the destruction of native cultures and lands, slave trade and the many wars that occured because of land.

The formation of the United States will never outweigh the destruction of an entire culture and the slavery of another.

With the estabilshment of the U.S., not much good has come out. History seems only to be repeating itself. I mean seriously...if anything, we've just established a more lazy and obese nation. What the heck is good about lazy fat people depending solely on technology? if anything, a superiority complex with a worthless government has formed. We assume that we're the biggest and the best, and that we've practically won all of our wars.

No it does not. Nothing can ever take back all the punishments and things that people had to suffer through to get where we are today. In the constitution, it says that people are to be treated equally, no one was. We destroyed people and their way of living to do things that would benifit society.

The way that the U.S has formatted the whole "society" thing throughout time, has been a destruction more than an improvement towards the people's. Slavery has been one of the major "cons" of the establishment of North America. As well as slavery, all of the major and minor wars that have been fought haven't necessarily been considered Pro's. Although for the devastations in this country, there have been many repairs, but the positive's still do not out weigh the negative's.
