With regard to exploration and establishment of the U.S., do the pros outweigh the cons?

I think the pros do outweigh the cons. Although our economy is in a slump at the moment. The upside is, wew have freedom. We are able to speak freely about government, economics, and pretty much anything we want. Unlike communist countries such as China and Cuba. Even though there have been many struggles such as, the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement, we have made it this far without falling completely apart. Some people may see us as a country that has tons of issues and needs help, but we have our strengths.

Yes, the pros do outweigh the cons. Of course I wish that the people in United State's history didn't have to go through slavery, the fight for women's rights, or many of the wars we have fought and lost lives in, but without them we wouldn't be the country we are now. Because of the fight to end slavery, we now have a country that doesn't allow people to use other people as a form of free labor. Because of the fight for women's rights women are now able to vote and can compete at the same level that men compete in. During the wars of our past we lost so many lives, but in return we now have many more lives that are free and can reach their full potential. As of now we are one of the most powerful countries in the world but we had to fight for it and we should be thankful to those who lost their lives and who were hurt and humiliated.

Out of all the events that have ocurred throughout history, one would think the U.S. is a mess, which started out with it becoming a con. The U.S. has gone through a lot in the past and its establishment to this day has created a better world for the people to perceive its achievement as a pro. For example, there's no more slavery, women have rights, and and the civilization in general is just more enhanced. Before there weren't many discoveries in the U.S., but as time went by they turned a con into a pro. So yes, I do think the pros outweigh the cons.

I believe that the pros outweigh the cons because after fighting for our freedom we got it and we havent lost it. America has had a long history war, slavery, racism, terrorism etc., but we still are a free and just country. The men and women that fought for rights, in the past and today, arent fighting for themselves or a certain group of people, but instead for a better America. They want other countries in the world to know that we are a free country with a population who has pride for their country. The people who fought for this country, know matter how little of a difference it would make, did it to help us keep our freedom. In the end, all of the things we did for this country were worth it to make a difference........

We did some bad things to get where we are today that I think are unforgetable. They had a big effect on us and will forever, but we aren't going to halt our progression. Other nations have done the same things. We had slaves, ancient Romans had slaves. We destroyed the Native American population just as Genghis Khan lead the Mongol invasions spanning from Asia across Eastern Europe. All for the sake of new land, and new power. Some things we did weren't pretty or nice and maybe there could've been a better way to go at the situation, but sacrifices are made for the betterment of a nation.

One must go through different experiences in life and learn from their mistakes, in order to become a better person. And it's the same for a country. Nothing in this world is absolutely perfect, so you just have to learn from the past and hope for a better future. Yes a lot of our people suffered in the past due to unjustice and other issues, but if it wouldn't been thanks to them, our country wouuld not be what it is now. Thanks to their mistakes and suffrages, we've learned how to live better. And if you think about it, that's exactly what America's ancestors seeked, they wanted to make a change in life. For example, they didn't want future generations to have slavery, people knew they were risking their life fighting for their country, etc. But eventhough most of the time they were forced to do things in very unjust ways, I think if they lived right now they would say that it was worth all that they went through, for their grandchildren or future generations to have what they have now. And for us as now, we can just be very thankful to all the people that suffered for us to have a better country.

The negative aspects that the nation underwent actually shaped the nation. The nation began wth immigrants trying to escape prosecution in their native country, and that foreshadowed the troubles that would touch the US with so many blends of cultures and religions coming together. History repeats itself. The idea that whites were superior started with having so many different people in the world; slavery initiated the civil rights movement hundred of years later and opened the citizens' eyes to the unfair treatment that most people - people who were not white males - suffered. The Civil War, although not entirely fought because of slavery, ended the most intense period of discrimination at the cost of numerous American casualties. Some events, like the Civil War, were necessary for change to occur because the events brought to light the problems the nation faced, the unjust treatment of people, and resulted with movements that aimed to solve the nations' difficulties. Because slavery existed in the first place, equal right laws have been passed. Various issues in the US' history have challenged the leaders and strengthened the nation, like child labor in the early 1900's, womens' rights, terrorism and illegal immigration. If child labor had not occured and had been FIXED, seven year old kids in the present might be working twelve hours a day instead of going to school, and their mothers might not be able to do anything because they have no right to say anything. Even the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 helped shape the nation, although at the cost of many lives. Because of 9/11, our nation has put new laws to protect its citizens, like restricting the items that can be carried in the airplane and being thoroughly searched.

Ships traveling across the ocean; dead rotting corpses on board with more dying everyday. Being whipped and worked to the bone for no pay and little to no respect. Racism (a small but important issue) against the very people that helped make this nation so great. Also with trying to make this nation great, we have put ourselves in debt. A debt so great that now we are in a recession. All the bloodshed, tears, and all of the bonebreaking work i say that cons outweigh the pros. We are still fixing some of the problems form hundreds of years ago. Yes we have freedom and yes we have our opinions, but at what cost?

Time machines are not a reality, we can't go back and live through all the horrors that shaped up our country. Even if we could, we most likely woudn't chose to be worked all day for no pay, to get whipped for our mistakes. We were never in a position of humiliation like slaves were. We can't feel what they felt if we didn't live through it, we can only sympathize. If we could pull a slave out of their grave and bring him back to life and ask him to look at our nation now, and decide if it was worth all his sacrifice, what would he say? Its all a matter of perspective.

From what I have seen in my 12 years in America I have learned about terrorist attacks, war, and depression but also that people fought, died, and suffered to make America what it is today so I cannot help but wonder how the world would have turned out if things happened differently, if America had not been made. I side with no because I what has been but not what could have been

No, the pros do not outweigh the cons. We still have slavery cause by the US. For example, the US has workshops in other countries where they pay the workers less than minimum wage and claims the products were made in the US. Racism still occurs today with immigrants coming to America and deportation. Why do we deport those who seek freedom? Sure, some immigrants come here illegally, but they do it for freedom. If America fought and killed many people for freedom, then why do we deport people who just come into a country illegally? They didn't kill any people. My point is that what we went through back then is still going on right now. It didn't solve anything. All the problems are just coming back to bite us.
